The Skystream 3.7: Your Everyday Wind Appliance

Think of a Skystream 3.7 as any other household appliance. After your dealer installs it and connects it to your electric meter, you’re done. Nothing changes inside your house.

Skystream Your Skystream works in tandem with your electric utility to power your house. When the wind isn’t blowing, the utility supplies your electricity. But when it’s windy out, your Skystream provides clean, quiet electricity. When it generates more electricity than you need, your meter can actually spin backwards—which means you’re essentially selling electricity back to the utility.5_skystream_blue_sky_thumb

Skystream 3.7, developed by Southwest Windpower in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, is the newest generation in residential wind technology. Skystream 3.7 has a 1.9 kW rating and is the first fully integrated small wind generator specifically designed for the grid-connected market. Skystream 3.7 is designed for homeowners looking to reduce or
eliminate their monthly electric bills. Skystream 3.7 is a down-wind (wind hits the blades on the downwind side of the tower) direct drive
(gearless or no transmission) permanent magnet wind generator. Skystream 3.7 uses an innovative 12-foot diameter rotor and produces approximately 400 kWh per month in a 12 mph average wind. Requires 8 mph for start up, 110 mph maximum. Skystream is available on towers ranging from 33 feet to 70 feet. It’s fully-integrated universal inverter delivers power compatible with any utility grid from 120 – 240 Vac. Skystream carries a 5-year warranty. Grid connected systems can incorporate “battery charging controller kit” for battery back up.
